IMMIGRANT AFFAIRS: FRAUD

AVOID IMMIGRATION FRAUD!

USE BOROUGH PRESIDENT HELEN MARSHALL’S RESOURCE LIST FOR IMMIGRATION & CITIZENSHIP ASSISTANCE

Immigration fraud occurs when unscrupulous individuals pose as immigration lawyers or as immigrant-serving businesses, promising to get naturalization papers for their clients in exchange for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.  In the end, eligible clients often find themselves penniless and without the legal status that they had expected.  These incidents mainly take place in areas with large immigrant populations, such as Queens.

If you believe that you or someone you know is the victim of immigration fraud, please report it to New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s Immigration Fraud Hotline at (212) 416-6149, or call 311 and file a complaint.

Borough President Helen Marshall is committed to protecting Queens immigrants from immigration fraud.  She encourages those seeking immigration assistance and help with naturalization applications to contact their Congress members or the following reputable immigrant service agencies.  These community-based organizations, which are members of the Borough President’s Immigration Task Force, have years of experience in helping eligible clients to obtain green cards and to apply for citizenship.  They offer these services free of charge or for a very modest fee.  Borough President Marshall’s Immigration Task Force is a network of over 100 providers, advocates, government agency representatives and legislative aides who offer a wide range of programs and services in the Borough’s diverse communities.
