House Numbers Division

(a) Issues house numbers (the assignment of a correct number to a proposed building), a prerequisite to issuance of a building permit by the City’s Building Department;
(b) maintains a record of legal status of all Queens streets;
(c) maintains a record and index of the officially adopted names of all streets in Queens.

Records Division

The official filing place for Final Maps, Alteration Maps, Condemnation Maps and property maps pertaining to the borough of Queens. This division also has the aerial maps, proprietary Belcher Hydes and Sanborn maps for the public reference, as well as historical information of the borough of Queens.

Grades Division

Prepares and maintains the officially adopted street lines and grades maps (Final Maps and Alteration Maps) of the Borough of Queens, establishes the legal grades to insure proper roadway drainage, furnishes legalgrade information to surveyors, builders, consultants and the various City Agencies.

Street Opening Division

Maintains Condemnation Maps, (maps delineating property to be acquired in the City’s condemnation proceeding.) The Maps are compiled from property deeds, surveys and the records of the Bureau. Condemnation Maps are usually prepared for Capital Projects such as highway improvements, sewer projects, parks and public facilities.
