Talented individuals will be great assets to the Library

QUEENS, NY – Borough President Melinda Katz is pleased to announce her appointments of Adrienne Adams and Eli Shapiro, Ed.D, LCSW, to the Board of Trustees of the Queens Borough Public Library.

Ms. Adams is an independent educator and corporate training professional and is the Chairperson of Queens Community Board 12. She previously served as the Board’s education chair and has been a leading advocate for education equity.

Ms. Adams has extensive experience in corporate training, business management and marketing. She has worked with a number of high-profile firms such as Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Revlon, Colgate-Palmolive, RJR Nabisco, Bristol Myers-Squibb and WinStar Communications.

Dr. Shapiro is a school social worker with Nassau County BOCES, which provides specialized educational programs and services to students in Nassau County’s 56 school districts. His responsibilities include advocating for students, assessing the social and emotional functioning of students and ensuring that all aspects of student individualized education plans are met.

Dr. Shapiro is also an adjunct professor in Touro College’s graduate school of psychology. He is state licensed as a clinical and certified school social worker and as a school district administrator.

I look forward to working with these talented individuals who are going to be great assets to the Library.”

Ms. Adams lives in Jamaica and is a graduate of Spelman College. Dr. Shapiro, a Far Rockaway resident, received a bachelor’s degree from Touro College and earned Master of Social Work and Doctor of Education degrees from Yeshiva University.

The appointments of Ms. Adams and Dr. Shapiro take effect immediately and they will be eligible to participate in the Board’s next meeting on January 22.

With these two appointments there are now 17 members sitting on the Board. There are still two vacant Board positions that Borough President Katz will fill at a later date.
