QUEENS, NY – To pay tribute to the countless generations of Queens residents who have bravely served in our nation’s Armed Forces, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. will host his annual Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony at Queens Borough Hall on Tuesday, November 15 at 11:30am.

Of the approximately 150,000 veterans who live in New York City, according to the NYC Department of Veterans Services, a little over 42,000 call Queens home — more than any other borough.

“Queens is a borough of possibility, diversity and opportunity because, first and foremost, Queens is a borough of veterans — heroes who, for centuries, have given so much of themselves to preserve freedom here and around the world,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “To all our Queens neighbors who have signed up to serve, we are eternally grateful for your sacrifice. On Veterans Day and every day, we honor your valor.”

Co-sponsored by the Queens County Women’s Bar Association, the ceremony will include the presentation of colors by the Francis Lewis High School Junior ROTC Color Guard, an invocation and benediction by U.S. Army chaplain Rabbi Manes Kogan of the Hillcrest Jewish Center and remarks by Borough President Richards.

The keynote address will be delivered by Judge Marcia Hirsch of the 11th Judicial District, which includes, among other courts, the Queens Misdemeanor Veterans Treatment Court (QMVTC). The QMVTC connects Queens veterans arrested for nonviolent drug offenses with substance abuse treatment as an alternative to incarceration, ensuring those who have served our nation receive the comprehensive assistance they require.

Borough President Richards will also honor a trio of Queens veterans for their service, both as active duty military members and as staunch advocates for veterans in their communities.

Members of the public who wish to attend the ceremony are asked to RSVP at www.queensbp.org/RSVP. Members of the media who wish to attend are asked to RSVP by emailing [email protected] or calling 718-286-2640.
