QUEENS, NY – Black history is Queens history. To honor the immeasurable contributions of Queens’ Black community to the success and strength of our borough, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. and his African American Heritage Committee will host their annual Black History Month Celebration on Thursday, February 16 at Queens Borough Hall.

“There is no Queens without Queens’ Black community which, in many ways, helped build this borough from the ground up. Tomorrow, we celebrate not only where we came from and the struggles of our ancestors, but who we are today and what we’ll achieve tomorrow,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “All are welcome at Borough Hall to both honor the trailblazers among us and to commit ourselves to the hard work ahead to create a society truly rooted in equity and justice for all.”

Held in the Helen Marshall Cultural Center, the celebration will include musical, dance and spoken word performances, as well as remarks by Borough President Richards. The Borough President will also present awards to six distinguished Black leaders from across Queens in recognition of their achievements in civic engagement, business, athletics and other fields.

Additionally, nine talented Queens high school students will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship as part of the Borough President’s annual African American Heritage Scholarship program, helping to connect Black students to higher education.
