QBP RICHARDS ON HORRIFIC BROOKLYN SUBWAY ATTACK

(April 12, 2022 at 1:20pm)

QUEENS, NY – Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. stated the following in response to this morning’s attack on innocent subway commuters in Sunset Park, Brooklyn in which 10 people were shot and 6 others wounded by a yet-to-be-apprehended suspect, according to city officials.

“The collective thoughts and prayers of all 2.4 million Queens residents are with the people of Brooklyn today, following this morning’s senseless, horrific and clearly premeditated attack that injured more than a dozen innocent New Yorkers who were simply going about their day. My office is in contact with the NYPD and, at this time, there is no active threat to The World’s Borough,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “We will never cower in the face of such callous violence, and we will respond with resolve and love for one another as we always do as a city. But ultimately, no New Yorker should ever fear for their lives on their subway ride to work or school. The MTA, NYPD and all relevant agencies must conduct an immediate, system-wide review of subway safety and emergency response protocols to help prevent such an assault on our city and its people from occurring ever again.

“If you have any information about this morning’s attack or the perpetrator responsible for this atrocity, please contact the NYPD immediately at 1-800-577-TIPS.”
