QUEENS, NY – In recognition of Gun Violence Awareness Month, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards will host his inaugural Queens Promotes Peace Conference on Wednesday, June 29 at 4pm at Queens Borough Hall, honoring our local crisis management and cure violence organizations for their critical work and connecting Queens families with the resources they need to stay safe this summer and beyond.

“We cannot simply police and prosecute crime away. True community-first public safety requires us to engage and uplift those organizations on the ground doing life-saving work every single day, and that’s exactly the mission of our Queens Promotes Peace Conference,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “Join us on June 29 as we highlight our Crisis Management System and their efforts to interrupt violence, while providing families with the resources they need to enjoy a safe and productive summer.”

The Queens Promotes Peace Conference will shine a spotlight on the organizations that uplift children and adults dealing with the root causes of crime that plague our communities, such as access to housing and employment insecurity, a lack of mental health resources and mentoring services and much more.

The conference will be headlined by a panel discussion on what true peace in our communities looks like, featuring Queens’ crisis management leaders and moderated by Deputy Borough President Ebony Young. Additional programming will include self-defense training courtesy of the NYPD, a mindful meditation session and tabling by participating community support organizations.

Members of the public who wish to attend the conference can RSVP at queensbp.org/rsvp. Members of the media who wish to attend are asked to RSVP by emailing [email protected] or calling 718-286-2640.
