QUEENS, NY – Borough President Melinda Katz stated the following about former Chief Judge Judith Kaye, the State’s first female Chief Judge and first woman appointed to the Court of Appeals:

“Judge Kaye was a trailblazer in her own right and a fearless pioneer for justice. She was an inspiration to many including myself. One of my fondest memories and personal honors was being sworn-in as a fresh-faced legislator to the State Assembly in 1994 by Judge Kaye. Her work today lives on in the very liberties that are exercised and enjoyed by generations of New Yorkers. Our thoughts are with Judge Kaye’s family and friends during this difficult time. We hope they will find some solace and strength in their memories of Judge Kaye and the assurance that her legacy continues.”

In honor of Judge Kaye, Mayor Bill de Blasio has ordered all flags be lowered to half-staff today.
