DAY 4 OF “BOROUGH HALL ON YOUR BLOCK: WESTERN QUEENS” INCLUDES HOSPITAL FUNDING PRESSER, YOUTH OPPORTUNITY FAIR

BP Richards to announce $1.5 million allocation for new ICU at Mount Sinai Queens in Astoria

(February 23, 2023 at 3pm)

QUEENS, NY – “Borough Hall on Your Block: Western Queens” continues for a fourth day tomorrow, February 24, highlighted by an 11:15am press conference at Mount Sinai Queens, as Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. will announce a $1.5 million capital funding allocation toward the creation of a new, 22-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Astoria hospital.

The $1.5 million allocation will help replace the hospital’s existing 8-bed ICU with the significantly larger unit and will be located inside the hospital’s Pavilion building, which opened on Mount Sinai Queens’ campus in 2018.

The new ICU will allow Mount Sinai Queens to address the growing need for critical care beds that became glaringly apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also allow the hospital to offer more complex medical and surgical services to Queens residents, eliminating the need for local residents to go to Manhattan for such treatment.

The Mount Sinai Queens allocation is included in the city’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget and helps fulfill Borough President Richards’ commitment to make sure all Queens residents get the first-class health care they deserve.

The press conference will be held at Mount Sinai Queens in the Pavilion lobby, located at 25-20 30th Avenue in Astoria, Queens. Members of the media who wish to attend are asked to RSVP by emailing [email protected] or calling 718-286-2640.

All those attending the press conference are required to wear a face covering.

Also on Friday, February 24, Borough President Richards will host a Queens Youth Opportunity Fair, connecting families to a litany of summer employment, volunteering and internship opportunities across The World’s Borough. The fair will be held from 11am to 1pm at Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens, located at 21-12 30th Road in Astoria

Members of the public who are interested in attending the Queens Youth and Opportunity Fair are asked to RSVP by visiting www.queensbp.org/RSVP.
