Astoria Public Power Town Hall

Join NYC Democratic Socialists of America for a #PublicPower town hall co-hosted by State Senator Michael Gianaris, Hearts Across Queens, Queens Independent United Progressives, Sunrise NYC, New York Communities for Change, and Food and Water Watch. The Public Power campaign will replace corporate utilities like Con Edison with a publicly owned, democratically run utility that will provide affordable, reliable, and renewable energy, and, as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez put it, ensure we transition to renewables in way that centers economic justice. New Yorkers already pay the second highest energy bills in the country, but in January Con Edison raised our rates by more than $1 billion despite a terrible record of causing widespread blackouts, fighting tooth and nail against the transition to renewable energy our planet needs, subjecting working class communities of color to dangerous levels of pollution, and issuing hundreds of thousands of shutoff notices a year.
