Presentation: Elder Abuse, Neglect, and Financial Exploitation: Dynamics, Resources and Interventions
Description: Elder abuse cases can be complex, with many situations involving multiple forms of abuse, relationships of trust between the victim and abuser, feelings of shame, self-blame, and fear in the older adult, and mental and physical health needs. The COVID-19 pandemic has only increased the complexity, with increased isolation, new scams, and increased economic insecurity for many. The NYC Elder Abuse Center/Weill Cornell Medicine will discuss the dynamics of elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation, how these dynamics have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, how to engage and support older adults around potential elder abuse, how to identify and report elder abuse, and why a multi-disciplinary approach to elder abuse is important now more than ever.
Speaker: Ayana Mortley, Training Coordinator | New York City Elder Abuse Center at Weill Cornell Medicine
Continuing Education*: This workshop is eligible for 1 Contact Hour for New York State Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSW) & Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW).
