Family Memory Box Workshop with the American Folk Art Musem and the Queens Memory Project
Come join the staff of the American Folk Art Museum and Queens Memory Project for an afternoon of connection, art exploration, and a hands-on workshop. Bring a family member or a friend, grab your family holiday mementos (such as photos, postcards, and special objects) and get ready to create a fun memory box together. We will create a special keepsake that honors special memories, past and future. All ages are welcome, and intergenerational participation is encouraged! In this engaging workshop, we will explore the idea and process behind personal and family archiving and have a chance to make memory boxes to take home. We will explore unique artworks from the American Folk Art Museum’s collection that draw from the theme of memory and see examples of digitized snapshots from the Queens Memory Collection. You will also receive a simple guide with tips from a professional Archivist about how to archive personal and family memories with your friends and family. Spanish-speaking staff will also be at the event for bilingual accessibility.
