Understanding typical developmental milestones is critical to identifying "red flags" which may indicate a need for assessment or intervention. About one in six children in the U.S. have a developmental disability or developmental delay which compromises their physical, learning, language, or behavior skills. Children may vary in when and how they reach certain milestones. Learning the signs and acting early is essential.
