Health Freedom Walk: A Jamaica, Queens Restaurant Crawl Honoring Dr. King
“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman because it often results in physical death” — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Lacking reliable access to affordable, nutritious food is a long-running problem in America’s big cities, including the New York metro area. In fact, the latest data from New York City’s Food Metrics Report, estimates 1.2 million New Yorkers are food insecure — that’s 14.6% of the population. But it doesn’t have to be this way. This MLK Day, PPMNY is uniting communities to stand up for a more inclusive food future. Join us for a purposeful restaurant crawl spanning multiple neighborhoods — a progressive plant-powered meal that pays tribute to Dr. King’s enduring legacy of justice. For our 2nd annual Health Freedom Walk, we’ve partnered with these Jamaica, Queens eateries, where chefs have curated delicious plant-powered dishes: One Love Cafe: Chickpea Salad Genesis 1: Vegetable Roti We Juicing: Booster Juice The restaurant crawl will last approximately 2 hours, and guests will pay $10 or less for one dish at each location. Along the way, we’ll be stopping at historical landmarks memorializing the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Jamaica, Queens walk begins at Rufus King Park. Please arrive by 4pm. To hold your spot, register for just $5. Walk Marshall: Bishop Melvin L Artis Hosted by PPMNY volunteers Jim Spellos and Caleb Oliver.
