St. John University Hosts a St. Joseph Day Ceremony (Festa di San Giuseppe)
In honor of St. Joseph’s Day, St. John's University will be preparing a St. Joseph Table (La Tavola di San Giuseppe) and preparing a traditional Sicilian luncheon. Having its origins in Sicily, this centuries-old celebration is a symbolic “thank you” marking the end of a dreadful famine and serves as a renewal of the Italian people’s devotion to St. Joseph. The focal piece on the topmost step of the table is a statue of St. Joseph, complemented by flowers and bread baked in the shape of a staff, a carpenter's implement, and the cross.
