76-9 34th Avenue in Jackson Heights
Since 2004, Jackson Heights Beautification Group (JHBG) has been bringing stellar artists to Travers Park every Sunday in the summertime. There’s something for everyone, from classic rock, to South Asian drums, along with dance and jazz. Queens—and Jackson Heights in particular—is known and lauded for its diversity, so why not celebrate that diversity through music?
This Sunday, JHBG hosts Phiroj Shyangden, a Nepali singer, guitarist, composer, songwriter in the Nepali language. He is the founding member of the band 1974 AD and The Original Duo.
“He changed the course of the Nepali music scene for good,” says Prajwal Mukhiya, the 26-year-old singer who took over as 1974 AD’s lead singer after Adrian Pradhan’s departure in 2015. “He influenced me and many other musicians who are active today.”
