Witness to Mass Incarceration (WITNESS) is proud to host its 3rd Annual Suitcase Sunday.
This in-person public event features formerly incarcerated-led services and businesses at Baisley Pond Park, Queens, NY on Sunday, July 16th from 11 am to 4 pm.
We will celebrate the success of formerly incarcerated people (FIP) since being released from confinement by bringing together FIP, their families, more than 30 FIP-led services and businesses, a diverse group of congregations and religious organizations, community-based organizations, elected officials and community members.
Speaker Adrienne E. Adams said, “In order for formerly incarcerated New Yorkers to secure stability and success, we must invest in them. Since its inception, Suitcase Sunday has provided a welcoming and empowering space for formerly incarcerated people to access economic opportunities and connect with critical resources. The launch of a new e-commerce storytelling website will also enhance the prosperity of these small businesses. I thank Witness to Mass Incarceration and its founder, Evie Litwok, for their passionate commitment to supporting justice-involved New Yorkers.”
We are excited to be launching our E-Commerce Storytelling Website. With this platform, we intend to drive traffic to our FIP-led businesses to increase their sales.
The Suitcase Sunday Event also offers us the opportunity to register FIP to vote, as only 1 in 4 FIP are currently registered.
The event will be open to the public.
