Virtual STEAM Workshop: Illuminating Juneteenth
Join Latimer House for a unique multigenerational Juneteenth program led by artist Tasha Dougé! Lewis Latimer’s invention of the carbon filament will serve as a metaphor and a tool to illuminate the contributions of African Americans in the pursuit of liberation. Participants will use symbols and iconography to create paper cutouts exploring themes of freedom and liberation to engage with the history of Juneteenth. In this program, participants will be encouraged to actively participate in the discourse around Juneteenth, and how art and symbolism can be used as entry points to explore and celebrate resilience, resistance, and emancipation.
