QUEENS, NY – As The World’s Borough gears up to celebrate Pride Month and our LGBTQIA+ communities, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards will host a Pride Flag Raising event to kick off the month’s festivities on Wednesday, June 1 at 12pm on the steps of Queens Borough Hall. Borough President Richards will then host his annual Pride Month Celebration at Borough Hall on Monday, June 13 at 6pm.

“There is no place on the planet like Queens during Pride Month, as The World’s Borough joyously celebrates our dynamic LGBTQIA+ communities and our bedrock principles of love and pride,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “No matter who or how you love or how you identify, you have a home here in Queens. This month and every month, we not only celebrate our LGBTQIA+ neighbors, we reaffirm our pledge to defend the basic human rights of all our residents, regardless of gender, orientation or identity.”

On June 1, Borough President Richards and Deputy Queens Borough President Ebony Young will be joined by notable leaders in the LGBTQIA+ community in Queens, as Borough Hall’s façade is adorned by Pride and Progress Pride flags. The event marks the second consecutive year the Richards administration has hoisted the Progress Pride flag at the People’s House.

On June 13, Borough President Richards and Deputy Borough President Young will host the Pride Month Celebration in the Helen Marshall Cultural Center at Queens Borough Hall, where they will honor LGBTQIA+ leaders for their invaluable contributions in the fight for true equity and inclusion in Queens and beyond. Some of those leaders who will be honored include GLITS Executive Director Doroshow. Sunnyside Shines Executive Director Dirk McCall, The Ali Forney Center and Queens Center for Gay Seniors.

The celebration’s program will feature performances by LGBTQIA+ artists, trivia and refreshments.

“Queens is Pride in every sense of the word,” said Deputy Borough President YOUNG. “The Queens Borough President’s Office is going to unabashedly celebrate this month, and I can’t wait to see how residents from across this borough will showcase what pride means to them as well.”

Throughout the month of June, Borough President Richards and his team will be joining parades, including the joyous New Queens Pride Parade, organized by Queens Pride, on Sunday, June 5 along 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights.

The office will also engage in activities right in Queens Borough Hall, such as a Pride Door Contest, which will encourage staff members to show their pride by decorating their office’s door. Those who participate will have their doors posted on the Borough President’s Instagram, where followers can vote for their favorite door.
