QBP RICHARDS TO ANNOUNCE NEARLY $11 MILLION IN CAPITAL FUNDING FOR QUEENS SCHOOLS

Tuesday, November 1 at 9am at P.S. 62 in Richmond Hill

(October 27. 2022 at 10am)

QUEENS, NY – To outline his continued commitment to providing the highest-quality education possible for Queens students, Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. will host a press conference on Tuesday, November 1 at 9am to announce his allocation of $10.785 million in capital funding for borough schools in Fiscal Year 2023.

The press conference will be held at The Chester Park Magnet School for Computer Science and Innovation (P.S. 62) in Richmond Hill, which received $175,000 in FY23 capital funding from Borough President Richards. This money will go toward the construction of a new hydroponics lab that the school will use to expand its groundbreaking STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum and help combat food insecurity in the surrounding community.

The P.S. 62 allocation helps fulfill a commitment the Borough President made in his 2022 State of the Borough address to fund additional school hydroponics labs across the borough. These labs allow plants to be grown without soil and help students learn valuable lessons about bioscience and horticulture, while enabling them to grow produce they can donate to people in need.

Joined by Queens school superintendents and P.S. 62 leadership, Borough President Richards will discuss the P.S. 62 allocation and the other school capital improvement projects being supported by his $10.785 million in funding. Combining FY22 and FY23, Borough President Richards has allocated more than $22.3 million in capital funding to Queens schools since taking office in December 2020.

The press conference will be held in the school’s lobby, and all attending the event must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination upon arrival.

Members of the media who wish to attend the press conference are asked to RSVP by emailing [email protected] or calling 718-286-2640.
