Queens Borough President Melinda Katz is pleased to announce her appointment of Dr. Lenore R. Gall, Ed.D., to the Board of Trustees of the Queens Borough Public Library.  Dr. Gall is a retired college administrator who most recently served as Dean of Students and Academic Services at CUNY’s New York City College of Technology (City Tech).

Dr. Gall came to City Tech in 1994 as assistant provost in charge of curriculum development and was instrumental in the creation of new baccalaureate degree programs at the college. She was named Dean of Students and Academic Services in July 2000 and in that position was responsible for overseeing comprehensive services for City Tech’s nearly 12,000 undergraduates. Among her accomplishments was the implementation of a peer mentoring and faculty advisement program to improve retention for students on academic probation or alert.

Dr. Gall retired from her position as Dean in June 2005.

Before she joined City Tech’s administration, Dr. Gall served as assistant to the vice president of academic affairs at the Fashion Institute of Technology from January 1991 to January 1994, as assistant to the provost at Brooklyn College from January 1985 to January 1991, and as director of career development for the Yale School of Organization and Management from January 1982 to January 1985. She also has teaching experience at LaGuardia Community College and at the New York University School of Continuing Education.

Dr. Gall was president of the National Association of University Women (NAUW) from August 2002 to August 2006. Founded in 1910, the NAUW serves women, youth and the disadvantaged in our communities and in developing countries by addressing educational issues, advancing the status of women’s issues and strategically partnering with allied organizations.

Under Dr. Gall’s leadership, NAUW branches sponsored projects for middle and high school girls that focused on increasing their interest in mathematics and science and fostering their awareness of careers that require backgrounds in those disciplines. She also spearheaded programs on HIV/AIDS to educate youth and adults about the disease and to prod legislators into providing increased funding for research and drugs to prevent, treat, control and cure AIDS.

A resident of East Elmhurst, Dr. Gall was previously appointed to the Queens Library’s Board of Trustees in 2005 and served on the Board for nearly three years. She has also been active in a number of other local community organizations.

“I am very pleased to appoint Dr. Lenore R. Gall to the Board of Trustees of the Queens Library,” Borough President Katz said. “Dr. Gall has extensive experience in higher education and has also made major contributions at the NAUW and at other organizations like the Queens Library, where she has previously served as a Trustee. Her intelligence, dedication and commitment to the public good are most impressive and will serve the Queens Library and the people of Queens well.”
