On Wednesday, August 27, 2014, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz will host the first in a series of Veterans Business Forum sessions that will be held at Queens Borough Hall. The sessions are sponsored by the federal Small Business Administration (SBA) in an effort to help our nation’s military veterans succeed in the business world.

Entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners who have served our country are invited to attend and participate in these free monthly meetings, where they will be able to learn about how the SBA provides financing, education and government contracting assistance to veterans.

The SBA offers a Veterans Advantage Financing Program and provides veterans with additional assistance through its local district offices and small business development centers. The SBA’s New York District Office collaborates with local governments and non-profit organizations to hold Veterans Business Forums to help military veterans start new businesses and grow existing ones.

The forums at Borough Hall will include presentations from business counselors and information from procurement experts about how veterans can secure government contracts. The forums will also serve as networking opportunities for military veterans in the business community.

“I am very proud to welcome the SBA and its Veteran Business Forums to Borough Hall,” Borough President Katz said. “Those who have served and sacrificed for America deserve our support and these forums will give them every opportunity to start their own businesses and help them to succeed. I am proud to assist the SBA in this effort.”

The first of the monthly Veterans Business Forums will take place August 27 in Room 200 on the second floor of Borough Hall and will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Queens Borough Hall is located at 120-55 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens. You can reach Borough Hall by subway by taking the E or F train to the Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens station.
