TWELFTH AND FINAL 2020 VIRTUAL QUEENS JOBS RECRUITMENT FAIR SEES NEW PARTNERS JOIN QUEENS’ HIRING PUSH

QUEENS, NY – The Chinese-American Planning Council, the New York City Transit Authority and Westhab will join the list of 16 featured employers and recruiters at the twelfth and final 2020 installment of the “Virtual Queens Jobs Recruitment Fair,” hosted by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, on Wednesday, December 9th, 2020 as part of an ongoing push to connect Queens job seekers with a wide array of employment opportunities available now.  

The full list of partnering employers includes: CAMBA, Inc., The Child Center of New York, the Chinese-American Planning Council, Commonpoint Queens, Council for Airport Opportunity, Empire Vets, FDNY, Forest Hills Financial Group, the New York City Children’s Center, the New York City Transit Authority, New York Life, R.A.I.N. Total Care, Inc., U.S. Census Bureau, WATCH GUARD 24/7, WestHab and Workforce1. 

WPIX-TV (PIX11) will return as a media partner for this employment recruitment initiative, after promoting the previous recruitment fair on November 18. The station will continue to support the upcoming fair with promotional assistance over its airwaves and on its website at www.pix11.com.

“Families across Queens continue to feel the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is further magnified when we look at it through a gender justice or racial justice lens,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “The economic recovery and rebuild of our borough hinges on connecting borough residents with employers looking to hire immediately for a vast array of available positions in key sectors. The talent is already here in Queens, we are simply giving that talent opportunities.”

Held every three weeks, the December 9 Virtual Queens Jobs Recruitment Fair will be held online from 2:00PM to 3:30PM. Prospective applicants interested in participating in the live interactive Q&A via Zoom Webinar must RSVP by Tuesday, December 8 at www.queensbp.org/rsvp. Instructions on how to participate will be emailed within 48 hours to those who register.

The ongoing hiring push comes as Queens’ unemployment rate sits at 13.1 percent as of October, down from a high of 21.6 percent in June but up more than 10 percentage points from February’s 3 percent unemployment rate. According to the New York State Department of Labor, more than 2.11 million New York City residents have filed unemployment claims between March 8 and November 21. 

“CPC Career Center was established in 2007 to provide New York City’s jobseekers with comprehensive supporting during their employment search. The goals are to connect community members to fulfilling careers where they gain work experience, enhance their skills, and achieve economic independence,” said Chinese-American Planning Council Director of Employment Services VICKIE WONG. “The center also helps local employers recruit, hire, and retain quality candidates. Services for jobseekers include individual employment planning, resume writing and interview workshops, job referrals and placement, and post-hire support.”
