On this second anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and perseverance of the residents of our city whose lives were forever changed on October 29, 2012. Through determination and a resolve to remain and rebuild, you have made incredible strides in picking up the pieces and in putting devastated areas back on the road towards becoming thriving, vibrant communities once more.

At the same time, it would be wrong to ignore the reality that there are a great number of Sandy survivors who continue to face immense challenges in their efforts to recover.  I hear the frustration, but please know that we are working every day with local elected officials and the relevant government agencies to move the process forward.

I am steadfast in the belief that our recovery is not complete until everyone who was impacted by Sandy is back in a safe and secure home and until our businesses and infrastructure are rebuilt better, stronger and more resilient than ever before.

I consider it an honor to serve the people of Queens and I pledge to remain united with the wonderful residents of “The World’s Borough” as we work towards a brighter future.
