QUEENS, NY –The Queens Borough Board, chaired by Borough President Donovan Richards Jr., will hold a virtual meeting on Monday, June 7, at 5:30 PM.

The meeting will include a vote on “Elevate Transit: Zoning for Accessibility,” a proposed citywide zoning text amendment that would allow the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to work more efficiently with private developers to better achieve accessibility throughout the transit system for people with disabilities.

It will also include a series of presentations from the New York City Department of City Planning (DCP) outlining other proposed citywide zoning text amendments, including the Citywide Hotel Text Amendment, which aims to create a consistent approach to hotel development citywide by requiring City Planning Commission approval for new and enlarged hotels and motels in mixed-use and paired M1/R districts. A second presentation will outline plans to expand the City’s efforts to encourage the opening of convenient and accessible grocery stores in underserved neighborhoods, while a third presentation will detail a proposal to ease restrictions and reduce red tape for gyms, martial arts studios, and other health-related businesses.

This meeting will be conducted virtually with Borough Board members participating via videoconference. The meeting will also be live-streamed to the public on the Borough President’s website at www.queensbp.org.

About the Borough Board

The Borough Board is chaired by the Borough President under the New York City Charter and comprised of the borough’s City Council members and the chairperson of each Community Board in the borough.  The Board focuses on issues dealing with land use, development, public policy, budget, and other important matters with potential borough-wide implications. The Board hears presentations from City officials and others and, as part of the land use review process, is sometimes called upon to vote on land use questions that impact more than one Community Board District.
