Queens Borough President Melinda Katz today named Carl Seldin Koerner as her first appointee to the Queens Library’s Board of Trustees.

As one of nineteen members on the Queens Library’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Koerner will be responsible for helping to oversee all aspects of the library system’s strategy and operations in order to maximize efficiency and utility for all New Yorkers. Mr. Koerner takes the Board position previously held by Lillian Gavin.

“I am thrilled to announce that Carl Koerner will be the newest member of the Queens Library Board of Trustees,” Borough President Katz said. “His extensive experience in compliance and corporate governance issues, coupled with his service as an officer and director on both for profit and non-profit boards, make him an excellent addition to the Board.  He will ask the tough questions and work to make Queens Library as transparent and effective as possible.”

“As a native New Yorker, I know how important libraries are for families across our city, and I’m honored to now be in a position to help make them work even better for Queens” Mr. Koerner said. “I’m grateful to Borough President Katz for this opportunity, and will work around the clock to deliver for our borough.”

Throughout his 35 year career, Mr. Koerner has used his understanding of everyday business challenges to effectively advise entrepreneurs and clients on a vast array of issues, including corporate governance and regulatory compliance.  His strategic planning firm advises business leaders, financial institutions, non-profits and government entities regarding the creation and implementation of strategic plans for personal and organizational development.

In addition to his roles in the private sector, Mr. Koerner serves, and has served, as an officer and director of publicly traded and privately owned business entities and of charitable and community service organizations. He is a current Board member of the Forest Hills Jewish Center and previously served as its president and treasurer.

Mr. Koerner received his BS from Union College and his JD from Brooklyn Law School.  He is a lifelong resident of Queens, growing up in Rockaway Beach and later moving to Forest Hills with his wife, Candice.  They have three children and five grandchildren.
