QUEENS, NY – Following through on his pledge to make improving public health a top priority of his administration, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. will host a press conference at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center tomorrow, August 27, at 10am to announce a critical investment in the facility’s ability to serve Queens families effectively and efficiently.

The latest in a long line of healthcare investments since taking office in December 2020, Borough President Richards will announce a $589,000 allocation to replace five ultrasound machines with new, state-of-the-art mobile equipment that can be used in any setting to accommodate individuals with disabilities. The project, fully funded by the Borough President, will allow the hospital to perform advanced imaging such as elastography and offer a non-invasive way to diagnose and assess the severity of diseases such as liver fibrosis, instead of conducting more invasive biopsies and other procedures.

Including the $589,000 allocation to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, Borough President Richards has provided more than $11.9 million in funding to healthcare facilities across the borough since taking office amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic — each one a critical investment in the well-being of our families amidst the greatest public health crisis our borough has faced in more than a century.

The press conference will be held in front of the Emergency Walk-In entrance, midway between 89th and 91st avenues. Members of the media who plan on attending the August 27 press conference are asked to RSVP via email at [email protected] or via phone at 718-286-2640.
