“Queens epitomizes entrepreneurship and inspires innovation, and we’re pleased to partner with Small Business Services and the Night Market to offer this series of free business seminars for vendors and entrepreneurs who are interested in expanding their ideas,” said Borough President MELINDA KATZ.

The seminars will be useful for all current and prospective business owners, but will be especially helpful to those interested in becoming a vendor at the Queens International Night Market, a family-friendly, seasonal outdoor market that will be open Saturday evenings in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park starting April 23, 2016. The Night Market is looking for both new and established vendors that will help celebrate our borough’s ethnic and cultural diversity by offering authentic art, merchandise and/or food to Night Market patrons.

“The Night Market strives to represent an accessible and affordable place for New Yorkers to test out their business ideas, and especially for the immigrant population that is so critical and integral to this City,” said JOHN WANG, founder of the Queens International Night Market. “I am extremely excited and honored to work on this business seminar series with Queens Borough President Katz’s office and the NYC Department of Small Business Services, who are great champions of the same underlying values.”

The Queens International Night Market debuted in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Spring 2015. In its inaugural year, the event averaged over 6,000 visitors each Saturday night while operating in the park. The Night Market features a diverse array of international street food, art, merchandise, free performances, and fun activities. One of the most unique and attractive features of the Night Market, in addition to its nighttime operating hours, is the general $5 price cap on food, which helps ensure the event is accessible and affordable for as broad an audience as possible. For those interested in the Night Market, the vendor application is available at goo.gl/forms/01anS3JtC2 and the website is www.queensnightmarket.com.  Attending the “Night Market Series” will not impact one’s application to the Night Market in any way.

“SBS is thrilled to partner with Queens Borough President Katz and the Queens International Night Market to offer free, tailored business courses to entrepreneurs and small business owners in the borough. Already, graduates of SBS’ Food Business Pathways and NYC Craft Entrepreneurship Programs work as vendors within the market, and we welcome this opportunity to continue our collaboration with this vibrant market space,” said GREGG BISHOP, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Small Business Services. “I encourage Queens entrepreneurs to take advantage of this seminar series and get to know the range of free business services offered by our NYC Business Solutions Center in Queens.”

The NYC Department of Small Business Services offers free, high-quality services for entrepreneurs and businesses of any size and at any stage. Our network of seven NYC Business Solutions Centers located in all five boroughs offer free business courses in multiple languages, access to financing assistance and incentives, recruitment services, employee training, and pro-bono legal advising.
