QUEENS, NY – Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. stated the following regarding the vital importance of the Drag Queen Story Hour NYC program, which provides critical lessons for our children around inclusivity, diversity and expression.

“When we talk the importance of providing our children a well-rounded education, we’re talking about so much more than just math and science. To properly educate our children is to teach them to embrace the deeply human values of empathy, acceptance and respect — both for others and for themselves. This mission is at the very heart of Drag Queen Story Hour NYC, whose storytellers are as exciting and engaging as they are invaluable to the literary education and personal growth of our children,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “There is so much more work ahead of us when it comes to fostering an inclusive education, like greatly expanding the teaching of LGBTQIA+ history in the classroom. But I am deeply grateful to the Queens Public Library, our schools and other community organizations across our borough that participate in the Drag Queen Story Hour NYC initiative, which I will proudly continue to fund and support every single year.”
