Nonprofit organizations are a lifeline to the diverse communities of Queens.

  • They are an economic driver, providing 15% of the borough’s private employment.
  • At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, nonprofits stretched every dollar to address the immediate needs of Queens families.
  • By offering a wide range of programs and services, nonprofits empower Queens residents to build community and to participate in the democratic process.

Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. has created the Department of Nonprofit Opportunities, recognizing that nonprofits are indispensable partners in government’s work to achieve equity for the people of Queens.  The goal is to assist, support, empower, and respond to the needs of nonprofits based in/serving Queens, particularly those that are small and mid-sized.

  • To serve as a clearinghouse of information on nonprofit resources.
  • To sponsor online meetings on fund raising and capacity building.
  • To introduce grant seekers to grant makers.
  • To promote networking so nonprofits can raise awareness about their programs and services, build collaborations with each other, and make the Queens Borough President’s Office aware of priority issues.

The platform for fulfilling this mission is the Queens Borough President’s Nonprofit Network.

You are eligible to join the Nonprofit Network if:

  • You are a nonprofit organization
  • You have a footprint in Queens – meaning, your organization is based in Queens or is located elsewhere but already provides services in the borough.

There is no membership fee.

  • Timely email blasts with information on grant opportunities, webinars, and other resources.
  • An accessible forum where organizations can announce upcoming programs and events.
  • Special invitations to online meetings and information exchanges.
  • One-on-one virtual sessions with the department’s director, which include customized searches for potential grants using Candid’s Foundation Directory Online.
