QUEENS, NY – Borough President Melinda Katz will hold a regular meeting of the Queens Parent Advisory Board on Wednesday, October 21.  The meeting will feature a presentation by New York City Department of Education (DOE) officials for parents about how to navigate the high schools admissions process, as well an overview of recent changes to the DOE’s structure of superintendents of high schools.

In addition, Borough President Katz will recognize the nine Queens high schools that were recently designated as “Reward Schools” by the New York State Commissioner of Education for having made the most significant progress or have the highest achievement in the state with no significant gaps in student achievement.

About the Parent Advisory Board

The Parent Advisory Board gives Queens public school parents an opportunity to be heard on education issues and concerns and provides a forum to meet with senior city and state education officials.  The meetings are open to the public, especially to any and all parents with children in the public school system.  The Board is chaired by BP Katz, BP Katz’s Panel for Education Policy (PEP) appointee Deborah Dillingham and BP Katz’s Education Director, Monica Gutierrez.  The Board is comprised of Parent Teacher Association (PTA) members, Parent Coordinators, the Community Education Councils (CECs) in school Districts 24-30 and the Education Committee Chairs of each Queens Community Board.  The Board regularly meets at Borough Hall.
