QUEENS, NY – The inaccessibility of period products poses a serious threat to the physical and mental wellness of too many women, girls and people with periods across Queens. According to the Alliance for Period Supplies, 38 percent of lower-income women nationwide report missing work, school or other events due to a lack of access to period supplies. To address this crisis and those in Queens it impacts, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. will hold a Period Product Drive beginning tomorrow, March 1 — the first day of Women’s Herstory Month.

Borough President Richards will accept donations of new, sealed tampons, pads, liners, menstrual cups and period underwear through March 31. The items will be accepted at Queens Borough Hall, located at 120-55 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens. Donations can be dropped off in a box located on the first floor of Borough Hall next to the security desk in the lobby, just inside the building’s main entrance on Queens Boulevard. The lobby is open 24 hours a day.

The items collected will be distributed to individuals in need throughout the month of March.

“Women, girls and people with periods shouldn’t have to worry about what their period products cost. They shouldn’t have to choose between period products or food or any other basic necessity that allows them to go about their day with dignity,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “Access to period products also represents a larger, at times unseen barrier to economic empowerment and education. To help break the cycle of period inequity locally, let’s help our neighbors most in need by donating period products. Because everyone deserves to have access to the basic items they needed to live their lives the best way possible.”
