QUEENS, NY – The Queens Borough President’s Office will be celebrating Pride Month and our LGBTQIA+ communities with festivities for all to enjoy this June, beginning with Borough President Donovan Richards’ annual Pride Flag Raising on Thursday, June 1 at Borough Hall, followed by the office’s annual Pride Month Celebration at Borough Hall on Wednesday, June 14.

“We are celebrating this year’s Pride Month loud and proud here in Queens,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “Regardless of what’s happening elsewhere in the world, The World’s Borough has always and will always welcome, celebrate and protect our LGBTQIA+ communities. Because it doesn’t matter who you love or how you identify — we are all neighbors, friends and family at the end of the day. Our LGBTQIA+ community members deserve to lead dignified, happy lives, and we will always defend and uplift anyone seeking to live their full truth.”

“There is no community quite like Queens’ LGBTQIA+ community and there is no time of the year quite like Pride Month. We can’t wait to welcome everyone to Queens Borough Hall this June as we celebrate the love, inclusion and diversity that defines our borough,” said Deputy Borough President YOUNG. “To our LGBTQIA+ neighbors across Queens, you will forever have a staunch and dedicated ally in our office.”

Tomorrow, June 1, Borough President Richards and Deputy Queens Borough President Ebony Young will be joined by LGBTQIA+ community leaders in raising the Pride and Progress Pride flags outside the Helen Marshall Cultural Center in the rear of Borough Hall. The event marks the third consecutive year the Richards administration hoisted the Progress Pride flag at the People’s House.

On June 14, Borough President Richards and Deputy Borough President Young will host the office’s annual Pride Month Celebration in the Helen Marshall Cultural Center, featuring performances by LGBTQIA+ artists, refreshments and honors for LGBTQIA+ leaders who have made important contributions in the fight for true equity and inclusion in Queens and beyond. Honorees include owner of Jackson Height’s Club Evolution and Friend’s Tavern Eddie Valentin; Apicha Community Health Center’s CEO Therese Rodriguez; the CITG Community House; the CUNY LGBTQIA+ Consortium led by JC Carlson and Allie Brashears; and community advocate Jim Diego, who will be honored posthumously.

The celebration’s program will be emceed by ABC7 reporter Derick Waller.
