QUEENS, NY — With rooting out systemic injustice across the spectrum of society at the heart of his administration, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. will highlight his successes in service to that mission and outline his vision for a more equitable Queens in his 2024 State of the Borough address on Friday, April 12 at 10am.

“Queens is seeing so much growth across all facets of our society. But unless that growth is rooted in equity for all our families, the historic injustices that have plagued our communities for generations will only worsen,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “I couldn’t be prouder of the work we’ve done together to build a borough based on justice and equity for all over the past year, and I couldn’t be more excited to take the stage this Friday and outline our plans to tackle the work still ahead of us.”

The Queens Theatre within Flushing Meadows Corona Park will again serve as the site of Borough President Richards’ address, which will be laser focused on expanding Queens’ affordable housing stock, creating economic opportunities in historically marginalized communities, connecting Black and brown New Yorkers to the borough’s blossoming tech industry, rooting out environmental racism and strengthening social infrastructure, among other vital topics.

Doors will open to members of the public and the press at 9am, while the program will begin promptly at 10am with a short film, created by acclaimed New York City-based production company Reframe the World.

Following the video presentation, attendees will enjoy a diverse array of musical and dance performances, courtesy of the NYPD Guardians Association Gospel Choir, renowned Queens saxophonist Steven Salcedo, St. Albans-based music school Joe’s Academy of Music and the Queensboro Dance Festival.

Deputy Queens Borough President Ebony Young will serve as the program’s emcee, while officials slated to provide remarks prior to Borough President Richards’ address include New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, Queens Theatre Executive Director Taryn Sacramone and retired NASA astronaut Ellen Baker — the daughter of late former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman — among others.

This year’s State of the Borough program is sponsored by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, JetBlue Airways, Delta Air Lines and BRP Companies.

Members of the media who wish to attend Borough President Richards’ State of the Borough address are required to RSVP via email at [email protected] or via phone at 718-286-2640 no later than Thursday, April 11.

Members of the public who wish to view the speech can do so courtesy of Queens Public Television, which will air the program live on its website. The program will also be streamed live at www.queensbp.org and on the Borough President’s YouTube channel.
