ELMHURST HOSPITAL FUNDING PRESSER HEADLINES “BOROUGH HALL ON YOUR BLOCK: NORTHWEST QUEENS” DAY 1

BP to announce $3 million to improve care for newborns and their parents; host self-defense training in Jackson Heights

(August 18, 2023 at 10am)

QUEENS, NY – Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. will officially kick off “Borough Hall on Your Block: Northwest Queens” on Monday, August 21, with a press conference to announce $3 million in capital funding for NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst to centralize the facility’s maternal and neo-natal services units.

The announcement will be held at 10am at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, located at 79-01 Broadway in Elmhurst. Joining Borough President Richards will be hospital CEO Helen Arteaga Landaverde and key medical personnel.

The $3 million allocation will support NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst in relocating its Mother-Baby unit and neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU) onto one floor to improve the patient experience for Queens families, while provide efficient support and services to infants in need of critical care. With this renovation, the NICU, the Mother-Baby unit and the Labor and Delivery unit will be located on the same floor of the hospital.

Over the course of his administration, Borough President Richards has allocated more than $32 million in capital funding across Queens’ healthcare network, including over $10 million to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst alone.

Members of the media who wish to attend the press conference are asked to RSVP by emailing [email protected] or calling 718-286-2640.

In the afternoon, Borough President Richards will then host a Self-Defense and Upstander Training Workshop from 3pm to 5pm at the Queens Center for Gay Seniors, located at 37-06 77th Street in Jackson Heights. The training, provided by Artemis Self-Defense, follows up on a successful series of self-defense workshops hosted by Borough President Richards last fall and will give participants the tools to safely respond to incidents of bias, discrimination and violence.

Members of the public who are interested in attending the Self-Defense and Upstander Training Workshop above are asked to RSVP by visiting www.queensbp.org/RSVP.
