QUEENS, NY – Following a historic surge in community board membership applications earlier this year, resulting in a remarkably diverse class of appointees, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. will virtually swear in his 373 appointees to their two-year term of service on their local community board on Monday, April 19 at 6:00PM.

“Congratulations to the most diverse class of community board appointees in recent memory. Thank you for stepping up and accepting the call to serve your neighborhoods,” said Borough President RICHARDS. “Queens looks forward to all you will accomplish on behalf of our families.”

Following welcoming remarks from Borough President Richards and Deputy Queens Borough President Rhonda Binda and a musical performance by flutist Sade Whittier, the Borough President will administer the oath of office to his 373 appointees — including 110 individuals who have never previously served on a board.

The 373 appointees will then participate in an orientation session covering topics such as board governance, land use, budgeting and parliamentary procedures, as well as Borough President Richards’ newly established Code of Conduct — outlining the rules and responsibilities of board members to maintain the legal and ethical integrity of the work performed by the boards and ensure a positive, inclusive working environment across the board network.

The swearing-in and orientation session will be conducted via Zoom. Members of the public will not have access to the Zoom session, but can instead view a live stream of the event on the Queens Borough President’s Office’s website, as well as the office’s official YouTube channel.
