Queens Borough President Melinda Katz will be formally inaugurated into her new position as Borough President during a ceremony to be held Thursday, January 9, at 7 p.m. in the LeFrak Concert Hall in the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College in Flushing, Queens.

      The Mayor of the City of New York, the Honorable Bill de Blasio, will administer the oath of office to Ms. Katz.

     In her inaugural address, Ms. Katz will discuss what she hopes to accomplish during her term in office as chief executive of the most ethnically diverse county in America. Her key objectives include protecting the distinct neighborhoods that make up the borough while at the same time creating a borough-wide economic master plan, expanding transportation options and identifying opportunities for major land use development projects to unlock the potential of the borough. 

      Among those attending the ceremony will be Ms. Katz’s partner, Curtis Sliwa; their sons, Carter and Hunter, and Ms. Katz’s brothers, Michael and Matthew, along with two former Queens Borough Presidents; the Honorable Helen M. Marshall and the Honorable Claire Shulman. Members of the Queens delegations of the New York City Council, the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate will also be in attendance.

    Rabbi Gerald Skolnik of the Forest Hills Jewish Center will deliver the invocation. The benediction will be delivered by the Honorable Rev. Floyd H. Flake, pastor of the Greater Allen African Methodist Episcopal Cathedral in Jamaica, Queens.

     The ceremony will include a performance by the choir of the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, located in Astoria. The JROTC from Francis Lewis High School in Fresh Meadows will provide the color guard.
