QUEENS, NY – The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) will join the list of more than a dozen featured employers and recruiters at the ninth installment of the “Virtual Queens Jobs Recruitment Fair,” hosted by Acting Queens Borough President Sharon Lee, on Wednesday, October 7th to connect Queens job seekers to available employment opportunities.

The full list of partnering employers includes: AAA Northeast, The Child Center of New York, the Council for Airport Opportunity, FDNY, Metro One Loss Prevention, MetroPlus Health Plan, the New York City Children’s Center, New York Life, Quality Services for the Autism Community (QSAC), Queens Centers for Progress, the United States Census Bureau, WATCH GUARD 24/7, Workforce1 and the Young Adult Institute (YAI).

WABC-TV (Channel 7) will return as a media partner, after heavily promoting and airing the previous two Queens Jobs Recruitment Fairs on August 26 and September 16 on its website at www.abc7ny.com. It will continue its promotional efforts for the October 7 recruitment fair.

“Our borough’s ongoing recovery and rebuild relies deeply on connecting job seekers with available positions in key sectors of our restarting economy,” said Borough President LEE. “Queens is pleased to welcome the FDNY to our robust set of partners at our ninth Virtual Queens Jobs Recruitment Fair to answer questions live about a wide variety of jobs hiring now.”

Held every third Wednesday, the October 7 Virtual Queens Jobs Recruitment Fair will be held online from 2:00PM to 3:30PM. Prospective applicants interested in participating in the live interactive Q&A via Zoom Webinar must RSVP by Tuesday, October 6 at www.queensbp.org/rsvp. The Jobs Recruitment Fair will also be livestreamed at www.queensbp.org/recruitmentfair. American Sign Language (ASL) translation will be provided live by Sorenson Community Interpreting Services.

Les participants et les spectateurs entendront de brèves présentations d'employeurs et de recruteurs cherchant à pourvoir des centaines de postes dans divers domaines de services, notamment l'aide au développement, le transport, le commerce de détail, la sécurité, etc.

The ongoing hiring push comes as Queens’ unemployment rate sits at 16.4 percent as of August, down from a high of 21.6 percent in June but up more than 13 percentage points from February’s 3 percent unemployment rate. According to the New York State Department of Labor, more than 1.84 million New York City residents have filed unemployment claims between March 8 and September 19.

“The excellence of the New York City Fire Department is enhanced by the ability to recruit, hire, retain, and promote highly skilled, talented and motivated members from diverse backgrounds,” said FDNY Assistant Commissioner for Recruitment and Retention NAFEESAH NOONAN. “FDNY prides itself in attracting candidates who are of diverse gender, age, culture, race, religious preference, and sexual orientation because the expression of unique ideas provides for better productivity, efficiency and service to a diverse and multi-faceted community.”
